MT. CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL CHOIRS
Audition Groups: Classical Vocal Ensemble and Bel Canto
The choir program at Mt. Carmel High School includes two audition choirs: Classical Vocal Ensemble (advanced mix ensemble) and Bel Canto (advanced women's ensemble).
The top choirs’ reputation for excellence includes performances at the California ACDA convention, the Golden State Festival at UCLA, and the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
In 2003, the Music Department was recognized by the Grammy Foundation as the Number Three program in the United States, followed by another Grammy in 2005.
The choral and instrumental departments combine each Spring for a masterwork performance, which has included Randall Thompson’s Frostiana, the Vivaldi Gloria, the Faure Requiem, Rene Clausen’s New Creation, and a 2007 concert version of Roger and Hammerstein’s South Pacific.
In 2009, we presented the concert version of Schornberg and Boublil’s Les Miserables and Rutter’s Magnificat in 2011.
Each year, the top choirs participate in top choir festivals around the nation. The choir program continues to receive superior ratings and top awards at many of the largest choir festivals across the nation.
Open Choir: Concert Choir
The Concert Choir is open to all students and requires no audition to participate. In this choir class, students begin to learn to read music and to blend voices. The Concert Choir performs at various concerts during the year. There is a men's and women's concert choir.
